Facts Regarding The Use Of Graphics In Websites

"Appropriate" website graphics is an important part of any website. By "appropriate", we mean that there needs to be a balance between website graphics, functionality and page load speed. The more graphics that you have on each webpage, the longer it takes for visitors to load that page and view it. Therefore it is important to consider what value any given graphic item is adding to a page in order to determine if a longer load time can be justified (and more importantly, "tolerated" by your potential clients).

Excessive use of animated or moving graphics can be distractive and annoying to visitors to your website. Animated graphics will also increase the page load time, in some cases so much so that visitors will not even wait for the page to complete the loading process before moving on. If this means that they missed your "message" then that webpage has failed.

Having the right "look & feel" within your website is graphics dependant. Using graphics and colour schemes that are appropriate to the the nature of your business is a very important aspect of the website. Just because a graphics format exists, does not necessarily mean you should use it. New graphics technology is great if it is used correctly and appropriately, in keeping with the look & feel of a website.

Applying a standard graphics "theme" to a website is critical. Ensuring that your webpages use the same style of buttons, banners, colour schemes and graphics features throughout, will provide your visitors with a comfortable and more relaxed feeling as they browse through your website. Using different colour schemes, graphics and layouts on each webpage is very unsettling for visitors trying to browse your website and in general, does not project a quality image to your potential clients.
